In its short-sightedness, blogger has turned its back on those of us stuck with old operating systems and I'm forced to find a new blog host. You will now find MickMathersARTblog at Blog.com - use the direct link found in the masthead and remember to update your bookmarks. This place will continue as another archive for a large body of my work. As many of you know, my primary medium and working method is digital collage composed of manipulated photographs often combined with digital drawing & generative images. Netlabels, bands and musicians can view samples of my CD Cover Art at Mick Mather Illustration located on Tumblr. In another life I was an Arts & Culture consultant specializing in revitalization planning through creative public art projects and programs with Economic & Community Development Departments of towns, villages and cities. In these hard financial times this work is more important than ever and I still accept consultancy inquiries. You can contact me by email at: mickmather@yahoo.com

"Kings Court Cube - In Progress, Day Four"
land art sculpture by Mick Mather
The rainy weather has kept me from working on the cube for the past two days. This morning, with a medium fog lending its ambiance to the muted, morning light, I went out to see how it withstood these minimal atmospheric changes. I actually added about a half dozen more pieces but working with the available materials in such a soggy state proved pointless. Anyway, here's a progress report and, just below, a short and quite bad, movie.

"Kings Court Cube - In Progress, Day Three"
land art sculpture by Mick Mather
I may have overestimated the amount of available material on site ... I still have a foot to go and it's taking longer and longer to gather appropriate branches with which to complete the piece. It looks like rain for the next few days and that will put a crimp in my work schedule. I hope to have it completed by Sunday if at all possible.

"Kings Court Cube - In Progress, Day Two"
land art sculpture by Mick Mather
After two days of construction my thinking harks back to an old Lee Dorsey album. I bet I listened to that LP at least a hundred times and one of my favorites was a song called "Work, Work, Work" that was written by Allen Toussaint song. Now, one might suggest that something a bit more modern, like "Workin' For A Living" by Huey Lewis & the News, would be as good a fit. Maybe, but if you played both of these songs side by side, the down tempo, drifting refrain of the former is surely the way my body was reacting today. More documentation as the work continues.

I'll post the finished work at MICKMATHERSARTBLOG of course, but the work record during construction of the cube will be documented here. For a peek at the digital study that inspired this public artwork, have a peek here.
