No Matter What Shape - The Archive

In its short-sightedness, blogger has turned its back on those of us stuck with old operating systems and I'm forced to find a new blog host. You will now find MickMathersARTblog at Blog.com - use the direct link found in the masthead and remember to update your bookmarks. This place will continue as another archive for a large body of my work. As many of you know, my primary medium and working method is digital collage composed of manipulated photographs often combined with digital drawing & generative images. Netlabels, bands and musicians can view samples of my CD Cover Art at Mick Mather Illustration located on Tumblr. In another life I was an Arts & Culture consultant specializing in revitalization planning through creative public art projects and programs with Economic & Community Development Departments of towns, villages and cities. In these hard financial times this work is more important than ever and I still accept consultancy inquiries. You can contact me by email at: mickmather@yahoo.com

Save My Studies -

"Mick"
pastel study by Rob D'Agostino
I'm not going to go into all of the details of The Save My Studies Project here because my good friend Rob tells it better. In a nutshell, the pastel sketch of yours truly, seen above, will soon be available at auction on eBay. I believe the minimum bid will open at just $20 ... but, the higher the bidding goes, the better for Rob - and for myself! - since we each get half of the profit. Truth be told? I think I've already received more than my fair share when Rob had to bribe me with one Shiraz after another to keep me still - don't tell him that though!

PARK(ing) Day -

"PARK(ing) Day - September 21, 2007"
photograph by Mick Mather
Yesterday was one of those way cool Friday's without a 2-ton limit on fun! The most interesting part of my day was this public art project that is spreading around the world from it's inception in 2005 by a group in San Francisco called REBAR. Follow the link for further informatiom, photo's, video and other links to the participants in the 3rd Annual PARK(ing) Day. Here, in Syracuse, New York, the park was set up in the Heart of Armory Square in the 100 block of Walton Street. The word from organizers within the 40Below Public Arts Task Force is that a web site is being planned to showcase our participation in the event. I took over 60 photographs myself and will be sending them a CD with full permission to post as many photographs as they see fit for the project. Pictured are Joanna Spitzner, Associate Professor of Art at Syracuse University, and Dr. Daniel Franklin Ward, Folk Arts Program Director at The Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse.

The Original Photograph -

"Study for The Lawn Chairs"
photograph by Mick Mather
Here's the promised peek at the original photo that resulted in "The Lawn Chairs" as posted on MICKMATHERSARTBLOG. As you can see, it's a fairly simple shot of some twigs scattered across a concrete slab. This is just as I found them, no rearranging was done, patterns formed out of chaos by invisible hands of the wind, the weather and perhaps a bird or small animal here and there.
