No Matter What Shape - The Archive

AN ARCHIVE OF MY OLDER WORK - AN EXHIBITION SPACE FOR ORIGINAL AND ALTERNATE VERSIONS OF MANIPULATED WORKS THAT APPEAR AT MICKMATHERSARTBLOG - A PARKING PLACE FOR SELECTED GRAPHICS USED IN OTHER BLOG SIDEBARS - AN ARTWORK IN AND OF ITSELF

In its short-sightedness, blogger has turned its back on those of us stuck with old operating systems and I'm forced to find a new blog host. You will now find MickMathersARTblog at Blog.com - use the direct link found in the masthead and remember to update your bookmarks. This place will continue as another archive for a large body of my work. As many of you know, my primary medium and working method is digital collage composed of manipulated photographs often combined with digital drawing & generative images. Netlabels, bands and musicians can view samples of my CD Cover Art at Mick Mather Illustration located on Tumblr. In another life I was an Arts & Culture consultant specializing in revitalization planning through creative public art projects and programs with Economic & Community Development Departments of towns, villages and cities. In these hard financial times this work is more important than ever and I still accept consultancy inquiries. You can contact me by email at: mickmather@yahoo.com

After getting a delightful comment from hpy for this post at MickMathersARTblog, I decided to go forward and create a movie poster. Get your popcorn and candy, Hélène, the first reel is about to begin!

Walking in the steps of Turner -

"Fierce (Alternate Version)"
digital collage by Mick Mather
The first version posted of this piece can be found here at MICKMATHERSARTBLOG where I mentioned that I might post this piece. Being a big fan of JMW Turner, this piece evokes memory of some of his darker paintings. For that reason alone I prefer this version but I was also correct to post the other and find it the stronger of the two images.

Old skool -

"The Girls at the Office (Alternate Version)"
digital collage by Mick Mather
As mentioned at MICKMATHERSARTBLOG this is the version that was posted there most of the day. It kept bothering me so I took it down and replaced it with yet another version.

Another look -

"The Black Hats - Alternate Version #1"
digital collage by Mick Mather
I was feeling a bit off center yesterday and not up to posting this alternate version of the image posted at MICKMATHERSARTBLOG for Illustration Friday. It's a bit easier to see the pun suggested by the title since the burnt match on the right isn't clearly recognizable with the extra filtering and layers. :)

Alternate Version -

"A Day After Punch Left Judy (Alternate Version)"
digital collage by Mick Mather
If you just popped in from my August 5th post at MICKMATHERSARTBLOG, I should say that I actually prefer this version. It's a lot more abstract in meaning as well as visually considering the red, background shapes that represent Punch. Is he passed on? Casually cast aside by the puppet master? The suggested, window-like features too, are they an exit for old Punch? A moment of growth and moving on for Judy? Hmmmm.

Referrence to "Architecture and the Modern Woman"

"Architecture and the Modern Woman"
digital collage by Mick Mather
As mentioned in today's post over at MICKMATHERSARTBLOG, this is the first piece in what I had been contemplating as a new series. For those of you who took the initiative to follow the link over here, welcome to this post from around October 2005.
